The Wife Between Us By Greer Hendricks

Set in New York and apparently soon to be made into a film, The Wife Between Us starts with telling us the story of Nellie who meets divorcee Richard on a flight from Florida to New York.  Nellie is a Primary School Teacher and part-time waitress with a history and Richard a successful amd rich hedge fund manager.

Their relationship blossoms despite both keeping their histories secret amd Richard provides Nellie with everything, a house, car, money, holidays, whatever he wants her to have.  However Nellie is concerned that she is being followed and is also receiving strange calls and suspects Richards ex-wife.

At the same time we hear about Vanessa, Richard’s ex wife who is now desitute living with her auntie, friendless and working to make ends meet in a retail fashion store. She is an alcoholic and upon hearing of Richard’s engagement to a younger lady starts to follow his bride to be and at times Richards’s she does not want Richard to re-marry.

About a quarter of the way in, I suspected what the first twist In the story might be and low and behold, 40% in my suspicions came right. However don’t let that put you off, as it then takes the story in a different direction as we learn more about Nellie, Vanessa amd Richard before things come to a tantalising head not far from the end between them. Is Vanessa a stalker, does Richard’s past come out and does Nellie marry the man of her young dreams ? To add to this gripping storyline, a further twist comes from Vanessa’s past right at the end which totally catches you out.

A great psychological romantic thriller with all characters playing mind games against the others that leaves you feeling tense throughout amd wondering how it is all going to pan out. I really enjoyed The Wife Between Us and will certainly look to go and see the movie hoping that is comes up to scratch against  the book. I’ll score it as a 7/10 and only mark it down because I worked out the first twist relatively early.

So when to read this on board ship, well without doubt its a real gripping page turner so you may want to start reading this on board whilst sitting on your sun lounger but as you won’t really want to put it down you will no doubt carry on reading it as you walk back to your cabin, again whilst getting ready for dinner and finally before nodding off to sleep after a good evening on board.
