Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
So I’ve been rather tepid with my last two book reviews as I wasn’t overly enamoured with either of them. Thankfully ‘Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine’ has put a stop to the rot and with it I was left feeling Completely Fine and satisfied with the fact that I had just read a good book.
The book appears to have been doing well in the book charts so it caught my eye as having some potential. Eleanor is a bit of an oddball we find and doesn’t have any friends, has never taken a day off Sick in 8 years of working and is laughed at by many of her work colleagues. That is until she has a problem with her pc at work and she meets Raymond from IT. Raymond has a soft spot for Eleanor and talks to her despite her oddness and after saving the life of an old man they become friends and Raymond slowly encourages Eleanor out of her shell.
Sadly though Eleanor struggles to adapt to having a friend. She has had a tough up bringing in foster and care homes along with a strange relationship with her mother and an abusive boyfriend when she was at university which has left her mentally scarred and relying on vodka to numb the pain of life.
What unfolds is a lovely heart warming, often funny, sometimes sad story of the past life of Eleanor and what has made her like she is. Raymond tries his best to help her express herself and unleash the burden of her life. You just want the pair of them to fall in love and be happy together as Eleanor in a way is as good for Raymond as he is for her. Whether they do end up together that is for you to read and find out about. The plot has a few twists and turns along the way and left me wanting to finish it to find out what happens but not wanting to finish it as I enjoyed it so much. I wonder if there is room for a sequel ?!?!
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, I am certain will feature on many people’s summer holiday reading list and I doubt many will dislike it. To me this is a very good 8 out of 10 and whether you read it in paperback or kindle form, it has to be on your list of must reads for your 2018 summer cruise and should be read on those lovely hot sunny days as you lounge by the pool.
This is Gail Honeyman’s first book and I will look for her follow up with eager anticipation. I tried to find her website so you could find out more about her but she doesn’t have one. However google her name and you will find lots of interesting articles about her and Eleanor!!
Happy Reading 😊😊
