The Cutting Edge by Jeffrey Deaver

Lincoln Rhyme (or in my mind Denzel Washington !!) is back for his 14th outing by author Jeffrey Deaver. Deaver turns out new books at a speed that I see from no other author and whilst he has other characters, Rhyme is the one he is most famous for and is the one that was portrayed by Denzil Washington in the movie The Bone Collector. He is one of the few authors that Canberralover has actually met, and I have a signed copy of ‘The Kill Room’ which he signed for me when I met him a few years ago. The book now takes pride of place on my bookshelf at home.

The quadriplegic detective, his wife, Amelia Sachs and his surrounding team & members of NYPD are this time challenged with trying to find what they believe is a diamond thief who has stolen some rare diamonds from a Manhattan dealer and killed him along with two of his customers. A fourth victim, the dealers assistant manages to escape with a shrapnel wound after the bullet fired at him hits the bag of rare stones he is holding and he goes into hiding frightened that the thief will come after him.

Further murders occur as people associated with the diamond dealer are killed in horrific circumstances but then the plot takes a turn as newly engaged people start to become the target of this killer and he comes out and names himself as ‘The Promiser’ to the press

Rhyme brings in the diamond insurance company detective to assist them trying to solve the crimes but the killer always seems to be one step ahead of Rhyme and his team.

This is a classic Lincoln Rhyme novel with non stop action and the plot twisting one way them the next leaving you uncertain who the perpetrator is until right close to the very end. However you always know that Rhyme, despite his disability will come out on top and will stop the killing.

With the speed at which Deaver realeases mew books you would think that quality would suffer, but far far from it, most of his novels get better as they go along. This is a great cruise ship read that will keep you occupied for hours whether it be by the pool, in a quiet corner or on your balcony. ‘The Cutting Edge’ clearly scores a 9 out of 10 for me and comes highly recommended by me to read.

Also if you have never watched the Bone Collector before, I can recommend giving up a couple of hours of your day as it is a great film.
